add or remove a track,
mute other track,
switch between tracks,
specify track names.
This lesson requires a songfile with first track ready. You can either do it yourself for practice or download the files from here:
Karedi lets you map songs with multiple tracks. Current list of tracks is visible in the track manager.
To add a new track go to the menu Edit -> Add -> Track.
As you can see in the picture 2 things happened at once:
new red track was added,
blue track became inactive.
To re-activate blue track either click on it in track manager or just press Tab.
To remove the red track you should select it and either press delete
with focus in the track manager or use the menu Edit -> Delete -> Track.
Let's re-add the red track. Once it is active you can start mapping the vocal line in the exact same way as you did with the first track.
Blue track is inactive - its notes and lines can not be accessed, however by default they are visible and audible.
The notes from the other track may affect the range of beats that is visible, therefore you may want to hide them in such case. To hide some tracks' notes just disable the checkbox in Visible column in tracks manager.
The track will still be audible which may bother you while working on synchronization or pitches of the current track. To mute it just enable the checkbox in Muted column.
You can switch between tracks by using Tab
(go to the next track) and Shift + Tab
(go to the previous track) shortcuts. Active track can be changed even in the middle of the playback or note tapping.
Activating a track automatically makes it visible and audible
If you are working on a multi-track song, you should specify the track names so that the players in Ultrastar will know which part they will be singing.
To change the track's name just double-click on the current placeholder name in track manager and change it to the desired value.
Singer names. However anything that will make it obvious to the players' what track we mean is good, e.g. Female/Male, Main/Background etc.
The process is exactly the same whether you have 2 or 15 tracks. You can map as many as you need although remember that not all Ultrastar distributions even support duet songs, let alone anything more complex.
Let's summarize the shortcuts that we have learned in this lesson:
switch to the next track: tab
switch to the previous track: shift + tab
Before moving on the next lesson you can try to map first to male verses, because in the next lesson we will continue from the rap part starting at beat 3616.
