# Changing notes count

## Adding notes

There are several ways in which a note can be added. Unless specified otherwise, the new note will start where the time marker currently is or, if you have some notes selected, right after the last selected note.

### With a mouse

To add a note using a mouse press `ctrl` key on your keyboard and while holding it, click in the place where you want your note to begin in the main editor and drag the mouse to the beat where you want it to end.

### With note tapping

You can add multiple notes easily with the help of note tapping. Refer to [this article](https://karedi.gitbook.io/karedi/next-level/note-tapping) to learn more.

### Using toolbar action

You can add new note that will begin from the beat where the [*time marker*](https://karedi.gitbook.io/karedi/user-interface/middle-components/main-editor/time-marker) currently is via a button in the toolbar.

### With a shortcut

With focus in the main editor use `ctrl + enter` shortcut (if you want to add a note after the current one/marker) or `shifg + enter` (if you want to add a note before the current one/marker)

### From the menu

Go to the menu *Edit* -> *Add* -> *Note after / Note before*.

### By pasting

You can also add new notes by pasting previously copied ones. More about copy-paste features in [this article](https://karedi.gitbook.io/karedi/next-level/copy-paste).

## Splitting notes

Note can be split into two or more notes as long as it lasts 3 or more beats.

### With a shortcut

Split the selected note into half by pressing `-` (the hyphen) key. You must have focus in the main editor.

### With toolbar button

### With mouse

Hover your mouse over the top edge of the note. The cursor should change to Ｉ symbol. Now just click in the right place to split the note.

### Via menu

Go to *Edit* -> *Split Note* action.

### By typing out chunks length

To split selected note into chunks of equal length, make sure that the main editor is in focus, then hold `ctrl` (or `command` on Mac) key and just type out the desired legth of the chunks, e.g. if you want to split the note into parts that are 16 beats long, just press "1" key and immediately after that press "6" key while holding the `ctrl/cmd` key.
